With the decision handed down on Thursday (April 24), U.S. District Judge William Terrell Hodges announced in an Ocala, Fla., courtroom that Wesley Snipes will be serving three years in jail on charges of tax evasion.
After the sentence was read and with his wife looking on, Snipes said to the judge: “I’m very sorry for my mistakes and errors. I apologize to my family, the court and the community. I’ve asked the court to show me mercy and the opportunity to make things right.”
This all stems from a verdict handed down in February, with a jury finding Snipes guilty of failing to pay $2.7 million in taxes over a three-year span.
On a sour note for Wesley, three years in prison was the maximum sentence he could’ve received - and it’s exactly what he got.
